Natural Sponges

Our natural sponges are sourced from many places but mainly from the Adriatic where divers adopt a traditional harvesting method. Only the best and fully grown sponges are selected by the divers, leaving the smaller sponges to grow for the next harvest and thereby preserving their natural environment for the future.
Used mainly in the Ceramic industry in the following areas:
-
Modelling - their smooth fine face gives them the ability to eradicate streaks.
-
Mould making - the same ability as above and, also, the natural sponge is not attacked by organic solvents.
- Casting - for the best quality ware the characteristics of the natural sponge provide a perfect finish.
-
Lithographing (transfer application) - the natural sponge has a fine face for smoothing out the transfers and is resistant to some of the organic solvents present in the transfers.
There are the following types of natural sponges:
- Fine face/silks
- Honeycombs
- Grass
- Yellow
- Wool
- Loofah
